Bridge Across the Sky
full Materials list
This complete list of items needed will vary slightly depending on the amount of prep work that you choose to do for your students.
The instructors can choose to draw the bridge guideline on to save time. Additionally you may also choose to stamp on the bridge or skywalk to allow students to move directly into drawing the horizon lines and painting.
Materials to share among artists:
reference images of mountain laurel
project samples
printed project guide (optional)
Classroom needs:
Access to rinse water to clean brushes
Hand wipes
Blow Dryer - good to have a “heavy hand” is used
Table Coverings (optional) based on your work surface
Each artist will need:
9x12 inch Watercolor Paper
The size of paper truly depends upon your students. 9x12 is a very manageable size for a project in a group setting and is available for purchase in tablets. I recommend Canson 140# watercolor paper, it can accept a variety of techniques and remains relatively flat while it is painted.
Liquid Watercolors (yellow, magenta, blue, green)
Prep paints prior to class time. I recommend using 2 oz. portion cups for liquid watercolors. Drip enough paint into the cup to cover the bottom, add an equal amount of water, then swirl the cup to mix and put the lid on top to seal.
3/4 - 1” Flat Soft Bristle Paintbrush (NOT a foam brush)
Table Salt (salt shaker|grinder or small amount in a portion cup)
Absorbent Paper Towel (not the industrial brown type)
Black Tempera Paint - approximately 2 tablespoons
Paper Plate
Rinse Water for watercolor brush
a flat bottom bowl with a large opening is the best choice
Ruler
Water-Soluble Marker or Pencil
Corrugated Cardboard
roughly 3x5 inch in size, edges need to be STRAIGHT
Construction Paper, 1-1/2 inch square pieces
a mixture of white, pink and red pieces is perfect - total count of 5-7
1x3 inch pieces of green construction paper - total count 3-5
