Evening in the PA Wilds - silk scarf
|
A variety of leaves are sprinkles over a field of midnight blues on this PA Wilds inspired silk scarf. This piece has many layers! It was painted with blue and purple dye then rust dyed using retired fencing, after that it was given an indigo bath, steam set once again and then the leaf elements were added using a serti technique. The images were drawn by the artist using a water based resist which creates a "fence" to control the flow of the fabric dye as the silk is painted. This is a one-and-only piece to be treasured.
Using dyes for this wearable art allows the silk to retain its naturally flowing "hand" and remain soft to the touch. The 8 x 54" scarf designed and painted by Smethport, Pennsylvania artist Julie Mader has been steam-set and is hand washable. $80.00 (one available) AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT: Elk County Council on the Arts Gallery Ridgway, PA (814) 772-7051 |
