Its good to think outside the box;
but let's go a step farther and
DRAW OUTSIDE THE BOX
but let's go a step farther and
DRAW OUTSIDE THE BOX
TIME FOR ink pen calisthenics!
1. In pencil, draw (or trace) a square or rectangle near the center of your paper. (Don't get hung up on the size or if its straight and centered - just begin.)
2. Trace over your pencil line with a nice bold line from your pen, then add text. 3. With pencil, using your ruler edge as a guide, add a few sets of parallel lines randomly across your paper. The distance between my lines is the width of my ruler - it can be THAT simple. (I started out with three sets then added another later on.) |
USING THE PENCILED GUIDELINES COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING STEPS
1. Draw a continuous wavy line, moving your whole hand across the page as needed.
2. Draw a continuous series of loops, varying in size. Once again moving your whole hand slowly
3. Without moving your whole hand, use only your fingers to draw uniform loops and waves.
Which method has more control for you #2 or #3?
4. Turn the paper and try waves again, slant to the right then slant loops to the left. Which is easier?
5. Draw a series of straight vertical lines. Is it easier to draw them toward or away from yourself?
6. Now draw horizontal lines or varied lengths, do any lines curve a little at the ends? Ask in class how to prevent this from happening
Test one or all of your pens. Repeat the steps above several times filling your paper and get comfortable with your pens.
