People in the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Belgium, Australia and New Zealand wear the red flowers on November 11 (known as Remembrance Day or Armistice Day) to commemorate the anniversary of the 1918 armistice. In the United States, November 11 (Veterans Day) honors all living veterans and typically Americans do not wear the poppies on Veterans Day. Instead, we wear the symbolic red flower the end of May on Memorial Day—to commemorate the sacrifice of so many men and women who have given their lives fighting for their country."
