Foil Relief

This relief sculpture project is a raised pictorial image made with cardboard bits and yarn on a flat surface which is covered with foil and processed in a manner which will resemble metal.  I made a castle while imagining medieval times which lead me on to making a knights shield for battle.
You can design your domain complete with a drawbridge or use the metal effect to create a shield with your personal crest.  Decide what you would like to make and let's begin.
materials:
cardboard 6" square or larger
cardboard scraps
heavy string or yarn
glue
scissors
aluminum foil (heavy duty is best)
black paint (tempera or acrylic)
paper towel
q-tip (optional to push foil)
Introduction & Step One:
Design your project and use bits of yarn and cardboard to create a textured surface.
Allow your design to dry then proceed to Step 2
Step 2:  Cover your project with foil and tape in place.

Step 3:  Gently rub over the foil so that it molds to the surface of your artwork.

Step 4:  Transform the appearance of the foil surface using a bit of black paint, a paper towel and a small amount of water.
