2021 LONG TERM ART EDUCATION RESIDENCY

together, during the 2021 art residency "remarkable women" we will investigate the contributions of 39 women who have made an impact on american history and who have inspired generations to pursue their dreams.

Katherine Johnson was born in West Virginia in 1918.  She grew up wanting to count everything in sight and loved learning and math.  She was ready for high school at the age of 10, at 15 years old enrolled in college and graduated at 18. 

Katherine began working for NASA in the 1950's and calculated flight paths involving complicated geometry equations securing the 1969 success of the first manned mission to the moon.

Agnes martin
​abstract expressonist painter

Agnes Martin is a Canadian born artist who moved to the United States in the 1930's.  Agnes became a U.S. citizen in 1950 at the age of 38.  

For thirty years she painted and lived in reclusion in New Mexico; then actually stopped painting for seven years.  When she once again picked up a brush she did so with a renewed color palette leaving her pastels and working in bright colors.  Agnes Martin died in 2004 in New Mexico.

NOTE:  Clearly label the drawing board with the artist's name on the art tape using a marker.
