Burch Beasts

Inspired by the colorful & fun artwork of Laurel Burch.

materials:
2 full sheets of construction paper and assorted pieces for the face,  scissors,  glue stick
chalk, paint, markers or crayons (caregiver and child choice)

Step One: Fill one entire sheet with bright and colorful geometric designs. 
This can be completed in either stripes as shown in the sample critters - or as an overall fun pattern.

Step Two:  Trim the patterned paper into the body shape by rounding off a corner and nipping in a triangle to create the feet (this is now the bottom), then create a long curve from the top edge to the bottom for a smooth curved back.  Cut a tail from the scrap paper cut from the body.   Cut a head from a 5" square piece in your desired color.   Use a glue stick and attach the head and tail to the body. (Refer to drawing at right and photos below in slideshow).



Step Three:  Cut out facial features:  eye,  iris,  nosebridge, nose tip and **whiskers.  Glue into cut out shapes into position.   OR   Draw facial features directly ontp your critter if you choose.   Let your creativity decide!
