I have LOVED drawing and art for as long as I can remember, a clipboard, paper and pencil were constant companions when I was a child. In my "pre-motherhood life" I worked as a draftsman, and as a stay-at-home Mom with two small girls I set aside late night hours to practice my pen and ink drawing skills. In 2004 I went to Oregon for a week to study pen and ink techniques with artist/author Claudia Nice - I traveled west for ink techniques, but I came home excited about painting in watercolors and began to combine the two mediums in my work.
In 2009 I attended an acrylics short-course taught by Nance Jackson of Little Valley, NY. , and I was hooked and
Launched into a fascination with color and the endless realm of texture.
I enjoy working with people, finding out what is important to them and pulling little bits of that into commissioned art
In addition to following my own inspirations, I accept commission work. I encourage creative thinking and together with my client I work to develop an idea into a lovely piece of art that expresses what they had in mind. Past commissions include portraits, postage cancellations, a collector's plate, community murals, private murals and garden-scapes among others.
Now I spend my studio time exploring acrylics using everything from bubble wrap to expired bank cards as I embellish a painting's surface and create works of art in subject matter often related to gardens, nature or history in some way.
A major accomplishment and honor for me was to create POWER WITHIN, an art exhibit which traveled through six counties in 2013/14. Funded with money granted by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA), the project was made up of 29 original works focused on plants which produce alkaloids used in Chemotherapy medicine. Power Within was selected by the PCA as one of four projects chosen from over 600, to be recognized as a 2014 Best of the Best Project.
