The front lawn of the McKean County Court House in Smethport, Pennsylvania hosts the Veterans Memorial featured in the pen and ink drawing "In Gratitude".
The well tended monument is to the right of the court house steps, in a prominent spot to remind those passing by that as American citizens we owe a great deal of respect and thanks to the brave men and women who have served the United States in the military and have given ther lives for the freedoms we enjoy on a daily basis.

"In Gratitude" has been reproduced as a print and is availble with the flags lightly watercolored by the artist bringing a hint of color to the artwork.  The image is also included in a set of note cards featuring drawing of historic sites along PA Route 6.

C Co. 2-325 AIR ABN DIV

In 2007 I was asked to consider creating a drawing to represent the current deployment of C Co. 2-325 AIR ABN DIV of the Army.  I was honored to be asked by my cousin Dave on behalf of his fellow soldiers to render a keepsake for the unit and within weeks of saying yes to the request, my email inbox was flooded with photos of Airborne soldiers at work in Iraq and I set to my task.  The artwork I rendered carried several similarities to Vietnam - Pieces of the Past such as the inclusion of both the National Defense and the Campaign Medals and a map of the country where they were stationed.  Several steps were taken to be sure that I could represent the medals in the drawing and permission was obtained directly from the Army for their inclusion in the artwork.  The piece was very emotional to work on and I was thrilled paint color to the original on the day that the unit landed back on United States soil.  The original is 16" x 20" and the volunteer project took over 100 hours to complete.
Due to the personal nature of the piece giclee prints were offered at cost to the soldiers in the unit and it was a sold out edition of 68 the very day it was printed.

cousin Dave and he could share the progression of the piece with his unit.

In June 2006 the Moving Wall came to our little town of Smethport, PA.  The visit of the Memorial was a week of remembrance and of great respect for our Vietnam Veterans.  The successful event was the result of many, many months of planning by local volunteers.

To aid with the associated costs of the event, the committee overseeing the visit asked me if I would create a drawing which could be sold as prints.
Before beginning the drawing, I spent time researching images of the war, listening and learning about the conflict from local Veterans.  The pen and ink drawing which resulted features the United States flag interwoven with both the  Campaign Medal and the National Defense Medal, soldiers, images of the terrian and a map indicating ares of conflict.

8" x 10" prints of "Vietnam - Pieces of the Past" are still available.  If you are interested in a print for yourself or someone that you care about please contact me.
